SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The San Francisco State men's soccer team fell 4-2 to host Westmont on Monday afternoon at Thorrington Field.
- SF State goes to 0-3-2 on the year while Westmont remains undefeated at 3-0-3.
- Issay Bravo scored his third goal this season, which game on a penalty kick in the closing minute of the first half.
- The Gators are now a perfect 2-for-2 in penalty attempts this campaign, with both scores coming off the foot of Bravo.
- Isaac Sandoval also netted his third goal of the season, and has scored in back-to-back matches for SF State.
- The Gators outshot the Warriors, 16-15. It's the third consecutive game SF State has recorded double-digit shots.
Jason Guzman took a shot in the 15th minute, attempting to squeeze it past the Warrior goalkeeper to the lower-right post, but the attempt was saved by Brady Highfill to keep things scoreless.
Westmont converted a penalty kick in the 20th minute, which Connor Lynch sent to the back of the net past the diving Hayden Frost for the 1-0 advantage. The Warriors added to their lead in the 27th minute on a header from Barrett Goodman.
Guzman had another good look in the first half, this time in the 37th minute as he shot towards the far-right post. However Highfill made a great leaping save to his left to keep the Gators off the scoreboard.
SF State was awarded a penalty kick with 54 seconds left in the first half, and Bravo made it count to narrow the deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime.
The Warriors went up 3-1 in the 53rd minute on a header from Landon Amaral off a corner kick. John Ruetschle added to the lead in the 56th, squeezing it past Mario De La Torre who entered the game in goal for the Gators to start the second half.
Pablo Salazar sent a nice pass to Sandoval in the box in the 64th minute, who punched it in to the lower-right corner and make the score 4-2.
Frost (0-1-1) got his fourth start of the season, registering one save in 45 minutes. De La Torre had four saves in the second half, three of which came in the final 15 minutes of regulation. The Warriors combined for seven saves on the day, four from Highfill and three from Diego Garcia who played the final 25 minutes.
SF State returns to Cox Stadium this Saturday, September 28 at 12:30 against Cal State Monterey Bay for Senior Day – the Gators will honor Issay Bravo, Mario De La Torre, Johan Duenas, Jairo Fernandez, Nathan Garcia, Angel Herrera, Ruben Huerta, Kendrick Rivas, Isaac Sandoval, Georgi Stoyanov, and Adrian Vasquez.
