How It Happened

The majority of the first half was played in the midfield but both teams had their chances. The Otters threatened early with two shots that missed right, then high. Samantha Shin had a shot in the eighth minute that went wide that was scooped up by the goalkeeper. Luci Gulbransen's free kick in the 18th minute went just out over the crossbar, and the Otters had a pair of shots blocked. The match's first shot on goal came in the 43rd minute when Leah See launched a shot from outside the top left of the box that Kylie Tone easily stopped.

CSUMB pulled ahead in the 55th minute when Jennifer Limon connected with Jaedyn Sanders for the match's only goal.

In the 77th minute, Lauren François played a cross from the left side that crossed the goalmouth. Otters goalkeeper Olivia Saenz tripped but there were no Gators there to score. The Gators did get a pair of corner kicks as a result but came away with nothing to show for it. Samantha Shim fired a shot inside the final minute but had her shot blocked.

"The seniors on the women's soccer team are absolutely phenomenal  leaders and incredible women. The future is super bright for them and for us with them in the mix the rest of the year," said Head Coach John DeMartini. "The result today wasn't what we wanted but it's now a clean slate with the conference schedule starting. I'm super lucky that I get to coach this group and I'm super proud of them."
