  • Neither team had much success shooting it deep. The Otters finished 2-for-15 while the Gators were slightly better at 4-for-16.

How It Happened

A sluggish start saw neither team take control early on. The Gators scored their first basket at 6:19 to spark a 9-0 run to go up 9-2 but the Otters responded with three baskets to make it a one-point game after one frame. The shooting picked up a little but neither team could pull away by more than two possessions. A jumper from Whitfield cut the Gators lead to 21-19 heading into the locker room.

After the Otters scored the first six points to open the third, the Gators iced them out during a 17-0 run. Alvarado had eight of the points during the run, followed by Ana Daniels with six. The Otters broke the run on their first possession, drawing a shooting foul and making both baskets. The Otters cut the Gators' lead to 38-32, but a three from Sage Bridges-Bey followed by a lay-up swung the momentum back in the Gators' direction. Monterey Bay's offense went cold and was unable to make up the deficit.
