SF State used an early 7-0 run to take a seven-point lead early in the contest, 9-2. An 8-0 run by the Seawolves eventually negated the early lead and gave the Seawolves the lead, 18-16, with under 11 minutes to go in the first half. The Seawolves buried three ball after three ball in the first half to take a commanding lead. They finished the half with eight made threes, including three in each corner. SF State's defense was slow to contest and the Gators found themselves facing a 42-29 halftime deficit.
The deficit grew to 17 on a Medeiros three-ball with 17:34 to go. The Gators responded on an 8-0 run that forced the Seawolves to call timeout with 15:35 to play. The Gators still trailed by 13 when they went on a 14-0 run over a four-minute period that found the Gators back in front, 61-60, on a driving layup from Bakke. Bryant hit a pull-up jumper to briefly give SSU the lead back but SF State only allowed one more bucket and finished the game on a 12-0 run while holding Sonoma State scoreless for the final four minutes.
