SAN FRANCISCO – Ana Daniels had a season-high 27 points as the San Francisco State women's basketball team downed San Marcos 71-65.
- The Gators improve 4-7 overall and 2-4 in the CCAA. The win marks the first win over the Cougars since December 2018. San Marcos is still in search of its first victory with a record of 0-11.
- Alexsandra Alvarado also finished in double figures with 19 points.
- SF State matched its season high with 15 steals. Alvarado had a game-high six.
- The Gators had a 33 to 26 advantage on rebounds. Geriah Bradley and Nyana Asiasi each had six.
- SF State shot a season high 52.9 percent from the field.
- Tatum Tamashiro had 17 points to lead the Cougars.
Daniels and Bradley aided SF State to a 9-0 start to open the contest. Gators took advantage of ten turnovers in the first quarter and shot 69.2 from the field to lead 21-8 after one frame. After a scoreless two minutes to open the second quarter, SF State extended the lead with a 6-2 run. But the Gator offense stalled as San Marcos came within six of the lead. With eight seconds remaining, Daniels made a basket and the foul shot to get the Gators back to an eight-point lead. The Cougars turned the ball over on the next possession, Daniels went up for a basket to draw a foul and made both baskets to give the Gators a 34-23 lead heading into the locker.
After San Marcos scored on its first possession to start the third, Daniels made three straight baskets to give the Gators a 40-26 lead. Sage Bridges-Bey's three-point basket with 1:23 to go in the third gave the Gators their biggest lead of the game at 55-35. The Cougars found some offensive rhythm in the fourth and shot 53.8 percent from the field including 71.4 from three. Tamashiro's three pointer made it a two-possession game to cut the Gators' lead to 65-59 with 1:29 to go. Alvarado scored a second chance basket on the next possession. The Cougars could not score on the next possession and were forced to foul the Gators on the next three possessions. SF State went 4-for-6 at the line to keep the Cougars from coming back.
