SAN FRANCISCO – Alexsandra Alvarado scored a season-high 25 points and started a win streak for San Francisco State women's basketball as the Gators took down Stanislaus 64-56.
- The Gators improve to 5-7 overall and 3-4 in the CCAA. They already match their win total from a season ago with over a month and a half of game remaining. Stanislaus State falls to 4-9 and 3-4 in the CCAA.
- The Warriors held a 44-26 advantage on rebounds and capitalized on offensive boards with 18 second chance points.
- SF State went 13-15 from the line including a perfect 8-for-8 from Alverado.
- The Gators had 13 turnovers compared to Stanislaus' 22. SF State tallied 10 steals including a game-high from Alvarado.
- Geriah Bradley also reached double figures in scoring with 12 points and dished out six assists.
- Daja Scott-Mitchell and Da'Myiah Lewis each recorded double-doubles for Stanislaus.
The Gators trailed throughout the first quarter but never allowed Stanislaus to go up by more than two possessions. With eight seconds to go, Nyana Asiasi drew a shooting foul and made both shots at the line to cut the Warriors lead down to 16-14. Ana Daniels stole the ball on the ensuing possession but could not get the layup on the fast break.
SF State got its first lead in the second with a driving lay-up from Bradley with 6:24 remaining to go up 22-20. The Warriors would reclaim the lead but a pair of made free throws from Alvarado closed out the quarter and gave the Gators a 29-28 lead heading into the locker room.
The Warriors grabbed some momentum in the third and went 3-for-4 from three to lead by as much as ten in the quarter. Alvarado scored three straight baskets to cut the deficit to 41-39 with 2:36 remaining in the quarter. Down 45-40 to open the final frame, Kali Myers scored back-to-back threes to make it a one point game down 47-46. A 7-0 run put the Gators up 57-50 with 4:13 to go. The Warriors came within one of the lead but a three from Alvarado put the Gators up by two possessions with 2:40 remaining. Stanislaus turned the ball over on back-to-back possessions and the Gators got the job done at the line to hold on for the win.
