UnlimitMe

MBB | SF State Men's Basketball Used as Case Study with UnlimitMe

| By:
SAN FRANCISCO — Before partnering with UnlimitMe, San Francisco State men's basketball was facing increasing emotional pressure and disconnection among student-athletes. Players were dealing with internalized stress, communication breakdowns, and a lack of personal tools to navigate challenges. Many student-athletes—particularly young men—struggled with stepping outside their comfort zones, managing perfectionism, and building healthy habits amid the demands of school, sports, and personal life.

SF State Head Coach Vince Inglima noted a "crisis of confidence" among players and emphasized the need for deeper, more holistic support beyond traditional sports psychology. In 2021, the Gators partnered with UnlimitMe founders Trish Boes and Pranay Gupta.

UnlimitMe set out using a research-based methodology that spanned topics including mindset development, communication skills, leadership skills, emotional intelligence, identity exploration, inclusive team building, and holistic wellbeing.  Each year of the program built on the last, offering dynamic lessons that evolved in tandem with the team's growth. Sessions included a strategic mix of in-person and virtual workshops, 1:1 coaching, regular group and individual check-ins, and continuous sharing of tools and resources between meetings – all designed to sustain momentum and keep the team engaged and focused.

"It's hard to put into one sentence what UnlimitMe can do for someone. It opens your mind. You just have to be willing to show up and be real—and that's where the growth happens."

Alex Gilat, former student-athlete and now assistant coach

One hundred percent of student-athletes reported that they agree/strongly agree that the group workshops improved their mindset, confidence and leadership skills; that the sessions helped them communicate better with others and gave them tangible life skills they could use beyond sports; and that there were noticeable improvements in team accountability, communication, shared values, team culture, and bonding.
