WBB | #23 Central Washington Outlasts Gators

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The San Francisco State women's basketball team kept up with #23 Central Washington throughout the first three quarters but fell down the stretch and lost 65-44.

  • SF State falls to 2-3 on the season. Central Washington stays perfect at 5-0.

  • The Wildcats shooting percentage was nearly twice as much as the Gators as they shot 47.4 percent from the field while the Gators shot 24.5.

How It Happened


After starting the game 6-5, the Gators went cold for the majority of the rest of the first quarter while Central Washington went on a 10-0 run to take a 16-5 lead. Bradley made a pair of free throw shots in the final 30 seconds to cut the lead before the end of the quarter.

Leilani Blecha opened the second quarter with back-to-back threes to get the Gators within a possession. Central Washington responded with a 15-2 run into the media time-out. Down 33-17 with under two minutes in the second quarter, Talia Garner scored a pull-up jumper and Deonna Mayfield made a three-point play. Mayfield had the ball with seconds left in the quarter and launched a buzzer-beater three but was fouled and sent to the free throw line. She made two baskets to cut the score to 33-24.

Gianna Darte launched a deep free to cut a third-quarter lead to 42-35 with three minutes to go. Central Washington closed out the quarter on a 8-2 run to take a 13-point lead heading into the final frame. The Gators' shooing went cold and finished 1-for-12 in the fourth.
