SAN FRANCISCO – Alexsandra Alvarado shot a three-point basket to reach 15 points with 2:33 left in the third quarter against Chico State to become the tenth Gator in program history to score her 1000th career basket.
The Gators played the Wildcats close but fell in the final minute 74-69.
- The Gators fell to 9-13 overall and 7-10 in the CCAA. The Wildcats clinched their spot in the CCAA Tournament and improve to 18-5 and 13-4 in the CCAA.
- Alvarado finished with 20 points, five steals, five assists, three rebounds and a block
- Chico shot 47.4 percent from the field including 41.2 percent from three.
- The Wildcats had 17 turnovers and the Gators finished the game with 13 steals.
- Four players scored in double figures for Chico. Meadow Aragon led all players with 23 points.
A hot Chico offense led throughout the first quarter with a 68.8 shooting percentage. But the Gators kept close thanks their ability to force turnovers and holding onto the ball. SF State had one turnover in the first quarter. A pull up jumper from Bradley with 2:30 left in the second tied the game up at 38-38. But the Gators went cold the rest of the was and the Wildcats went on a 5-0 run to end the second.
The Gators trailed by as much as eight in the third but shifted some momentum back with an 11-1 run near the end of the quarter to take their first lead of the game. Kaila Woo's buzzer beater at the end of the quarter cut the lead to 57-56. The two teams stayed within a possession of each other in the fourth. Tied at 69-69, Chico's Jadence Clifton hit a three-point basket with 23 seconds left. The Gators had a chance to tie the game, but Alvarado's three missed and Chico made both shots at the line to ice the game.
