How It Happened

Alvarado made the first three baskets for SF State, and her three-pointer with 5:32 left in the first gave the Gators their first lead of the day at 7-5. Daniels followed with a jumper the next possession, but Humboldt was able to go ahead 14-9 following a 9-0 run. Alvarado knocked down another three in the closing seconds of the first to bring SF State within one, 17-16.

Geriah Bradley's triple midway through the second quarter put the hosts up 22-18, but Humboldt was able to tie it at 22-all with back-to-back baskets. Once again Alvarado closed out the frame with points, this time from the charity stripe as the redshirt junior made her first free throw of the day to level the score at 27-all going into halftime.

Humboldt pulled ahead, 32-29 to open the second half. Both teams traded layups in the third quarter, and Bradley hit a jumper before Alvarado made a free throw to close the quarter with SF State down just one at 41-40.

Nyana Asiasi made a three pointer to put SF State up 46-45 with just under eight minutes left. SF State struggled offensively in the closing minutes, going 1-for-7 from the floor before Daniels made a jumper from the paint to make it a three-point game with under a minute left. Trailing by five in the final minute, Alvarado sunk a clutch three with 10.1 seconds left to make it 57-55. However the Lumberjacks worked their way to the line and Kailua Lesane made both free throws to go up by four. Alvarado made a buzzer-beating three-pointer but couldn't draw the and-one foul as SF State fell by one.
