ATHERTON, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team used hot hitting and solid pitching to take a 18-3 victory over Menlo College.

By the Numbers

 

• SF State improves  2-4 on the season while the Oaks fall to 2-2
• AJ Schrader, Matt Sugden, Tony Martinez and Anthony Alvarez all hit their first home runs of the season with Martinez's home run the first of his career.
• Schrader had a game-high five RBIs.
• The Gators were able to work free bases off nine walks and seven HBPs. Daniel Santos had a team-high three walks.
• Daniel Murillo was a perfect 3-for-3 with two walks.
• 19 different players took an at-bat.
• Murillo and Nicholas Allred each had a stolen base.

 

How It Happened

After a quiet three innings, the Gators erupted for eight runs in the fourth. Schrader started the scoring run with a three-run home run. A pair of walks put runners on first and second. Michael Cunningham singled up the middle to bring the runner at second home. With the bases juiced, Santos drew an RBI walk and back-to-back errors allowed three more runs to score. Sugden hit a solo shot to open the fifth.

The Gators had another productive inning in the fifth and added fifth runs. Aaron Roberts hit an RBI single up the middle. Schrader singled down the right to bring Roberts home. With runners at first and second, the Gators hit three straight RBI singles to score the runner at second. Up 15-3 in the ninth, Martinez and Alvarez homored to extend the lead to 18-3.
 

On The Mound

 

• Ryan Garza (1-1) pitched five innings of no-hit baseball and gave up two walks. He also tossed seven strikeouts.
• Scott Bauman, Brandon Gatson, River Diaz De Leon and Daniel Smith each pitched an inning in relief.
• Barsotti took the loss for Menlo.
