LOLETA, Calif. — The San Francisco State softball team split its CCAA opening doubleheader with Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday at Bear River Sports Complex. The Gators dropped game one 5-4 and bounced back with a 6-1 victory in game two.
- SF State, who is receiving votes in the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, moves to 12-4 on the season, while the Lumberjacks move to 10-5. The two teams open CCAA play at 1-1.
- Kai DeLeon and Marley Gonzales both had two hits and two RBI in game two. Ashley Rocha also had a two-hit game.
- Daniella Guerrera went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in game one and continues to lead the team with 16 RBI.
- The Gators had six stolen bases on the day, three by Rocha. Gonzales, who had one, leads the team with 12. Rocha is second with 10. As a team, the Gators now have 37 stolen bases on the season.
- Elise Roy pitched two scoreless innings of relief in game one and tossed a complete game in game two. In doing so, she lowered her ERA to 1.15.
Game 1
- Back-to-back Lumberjacks singles in the bottom of the first set up an Alyssa Smokey two-run double for an early Lumberjacks lead.
- The Gators answered in the top of the second. Nilson sent a one-out single to left, Lexi Holihan worked a full-count walk, Marisa Jordan singled to load the bases. Kate Nelson drew a full-count walk to bring a run home and Rocha grounded out to tie the game. However, Jordan tried to take home and was tagged at the plate.
- SF State took the lead in the third with a two-out rally. Guerrera singled, advanced on a wild pitch, stole third, and scored on Shannessy Cardwell's single to center.
- However, the Lumberjacks took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth. Four hits and a pair of walks resulted in a three-run inning.
- SF State made it a one-run ballgame in the fifth. Rocha reached on an error to begin the inning. Then, with two outs, she stole second and third and scored on a Guerrera single to left.
- Mari Takeda Bajan (4-2) was roughed up for five runs on eight hits in four innings. She walked two and struck out one.
- Elise Roy pitched two innings of scoreless relief. She allowed a hit, issued two walks, and had a strikeout.
- Gaige Garcia (5-2) allowed four runs, three earned, on five hits over five innings. She walked a pair and struck out three.
- Riley Shopp picked up the save with two hitless innings. Her only blemish was a five-pitch walk to Holihan.
Game 2
- The Gators offense used a three-run inning to take control in game two. Jordan, Liana Gonzalez, and DeLeon all delivered RBI singles in the second. The Lumberjacks got a run back in the bottom half of the inning on a Hailey Meisenbach single.
- After a pair of strikeouts, the Gators tacked on a run in the fourth. Rocha singled, stole second, and raced home on a DeLeon single to left center.
- In the top of the sixth, Gonzales drove home two more with a two-out single to right field.
- Roy (4-0) went the distance en route to her fourth win. She gave up a season-high nine runs but allowed just one run and struck out four.
- Lumberjacks starter Alyssa Smokey (4-1) went five and two thirds innings and gave up six runs on 11 hits. She walked three with seven strikeouts.
- Rayna Ponce struck out a batter and hit a batter in the remaining inning and a third.
The two teams wrap up the series on Friday, February 20 with a noon doubleheader at Bear River Sports Complex. The doubleheader will be broadcast on
