ARCATA, Calif. – The No. 23 San Francisco State softball team dropped both games of its makeup doubleheader at Cal Poly Humboldt, 7-6 and 4-1, on Tuesday.
- SF State, which is ranked No. 23 in the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, dips to 28-16 overall and 15-13 in CCAA action but remains in third place. The Lumberjacks
- The doubleheader resumed from February 21, in which play was suspended in the fifth inning of game one. The series was then moved from Loleta to the Cal Poly Humboldt campus in Arcata.
- The series loss marks just the second series loss by the Gators this season.
- Marley Gonzales went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, a run, and an RBI in game one.
- The Gators turned their 27th double play of the season in game two.
Game 1
- Cal Poly Humboldt chased Mari Takeda Bajan with a 3-0 outburst in the fourth inning. Kharime Caratachea came on in relief with the bases loaded but issued a walk to Brody, hit Shanks, and allowed an RBI single to Alyssa Smokey to make it 6-0 before getting out of the inning.
- Liana Gonzalez and Ashley Rocha walked to begin the fifth, and Gonzalez scored on a DeLeon RBI single up the middle. However, play was halted after that with the Gators down 6-1.
- SF State picked right up in the middle of the rally. Marley Gonzales and Daniella Guerera drew back-to-back walks to make it 6-2 and a Holihan groundout brought DeLeon home to make it 6-3.
- Rylee McDaniel led the sixth inning off with a walk and DeLeon ripped an RBI double to the right center wall, then moved up to third on an errant throw home. Gonzales singled home DeLeon, then stole second and got all the way to third on another throwing error, and scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 6-6.
- An error proved costly in the bottom of the sixth. After a leadoff groundout, Takeda Bajan, who reentered upon resumption on Tuesday, hit two batters to load the bases and gave up the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Alyssa Ramirez.
- Takeda Bajan (12-5) allowed seven runs, six earned, on just four hits. She walked five and struck out two with three hit batters.
- Caratachea gave up a hit and struck out one in a two thirds innings of relief.
- Lumberjacks starter Riley Shopp settled for a no-decision. She allowed three runs on five hits over four innings of work. She walked five.
- Gaige Garcia (5-4) picked up the win with three innings of relief. She allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits. She walked one and struck out one.
Game 2
- In the bottom of the third, Takeda Bajan gave up a two-run homer to left center to Smokey. That chased Takeda Bajan and brought on Elise Roy from the bullpen.
- The Lumberjacks added on in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out, bases-loaded double to Smokey.
- Marissa Jordan broke up the no-hit bid with a one-out single back up the middle under the glove of pitcher Rayna Ponce. The Gators ended up stranding a pair, and stranded two more in the seventh.
- Takeda Bajan (12-6) allowed two runs on six hits and went just two and a third innings. She struck out one.
- Elise Roy gave up two runs on four hits in three and two thirds innings of relief work. She walked three and struck out one.
- Ponce (1-2) scattered two hits over five innings with a strikeout.
- Garcia allowed one run in two innings of relief. She allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out one.
