How It Happened

The Wildcats led 9-0 through the top of the fourth thanks to three home runs that scored seven runs. The Gators finally got on the board in the bottom of the inning when Justin Johnson singled to right center, allowing the runner in scoring position to come home. Nicholas Allred doubled to open the bottom of the fifth, advanced on the groundout and scored on Stephen Espinoza's single to right center. Cunningham hit a bomb over the left field fence to cut the lead to 9-4. The Wildcats added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI double. In the bottom of the inning, Allred doubled down the left line to allow Daniel Santos to score from first. With another runner aboard, Cunningham found the same spot over the left field fence and added three more runs to cut the lead down to two. Allred hit a lead off single in the bottom of the eighth and Kyle Olimpia doubled to deep left center to score a run. With a chance to continue the game down a run in the ninth, Derek Laferriere singled with one out. Santos hit a ball to right field that looked like it could drop but the right fielder caught it and tossed out Laferriere who was too far off the base.
