SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The San Francisco State baseball team rallied in the ninth to score four runs and tie game one against #28 Cal State San Bernardino 8-8. SF State held the Yotes scoreless in the bottom of the inning but the Yotes walked it off in the tenth inning to win 9-8.
- SF State falls to 7-6 on the season and 3-2 in the CCAA while the Yotes improve to 11-4 and 3-2 in the CCAA.
- Daniel Murillo had his first multi-home run game of the season and hit two to give him five on the season. Michael Cunningham hit his sixth conference leading home run and Anthony Alvarez hit a solo shot.
- Nicholas Allred went 3-for-5 at the plate.
- The Gators only drew one walk compared to the Yotes six.
- A grand slam from Wyatt Hall proved to be a difference maker for the Yotes.
Cunningham opened the game with a lead-off home run to right field. The Yotes put together a two-out rally in the bottom of the inning to score a run but the Gators limited the damage to that. Alvarez went to the opposite side of the field from Cunningham to retake the lead at 2-1. Murillo got on base thanks to a throwing error, advanced to third on a single and was brought home on a sac fly from
Derek Laferriere. On Murillo's next at-bat in the fifth, he hit a solo shot over the left field fencer to extend the lead to 4-2. A lead-off single and wild pitch allowed a runner in scoring position for the Yotes and Jason Shedlock singled to center to cut the Gators' lead to 4-2. With bases loaded and one out, Hall hit one out of the park to flip the script and take the lead for the Yotes. San Bernardino drew three walks with one out. A line-out to
Justin Johnson at third got the second out but a passed ball allowed one run to score and an RBI single made it an 8-4 game.
Down four and three outs left,
Daniel Santos and
Anthony Alvarez hit back-to-back hits to place themselves in scoring position.
Jackson Wood singled to right center to bring both home. Down to their last out with a runner on third, Murillo tied the game with his second home run of the game.
Andrew Silva got two quick strikeouts in the bottom of the inning before loading the bases up but Silva induced a fly-out to kept the game going. Tied 8-8 in the bottom of the 10th with a runner on, Daryl Ruiz hit a double that brought the runner home to win the game.
- Ryan Garza gave the longest start of a Gator this season and went 6.1 innings with four runs and eight hits given up. He struck out three and did not give up a walk in the no-decision.
- Edrian Rangel and Tyler Ohlson pitched out of the bullpen.
- Andrew Silva (0-1) took his first loss of the season. He went 1.1 innings with three hits and a run. Silva tossed two strikeouts.
- Josh VerKuilen picked up his first win of the season out of the bullpen.
