How It Happened

The lead bounced around constantly in the first half and finally settled into the Gators' hands on Bakke's bucket at 1:23. That gave him 10 points in the half and a 38-37 SF State lead. Neither team scored the remainder of the half and the Gators took that lead into the locker room.

However, the Cougars came out firing in the second half and used an 8-2 run to turn the tables, 45-40. The Cougars still led at the 14-minute mark but the Gators used a 12-2 run over the next three and a half minutes. Over that span, the Gators forced three turnovers and only allowed the one Cougars bucket, a Donovan Watkins layup. CSUSM pulled to within three points with inside six minutes to play but the Gators stretched the lead back to double digits by the two-minute mark and to as many as 15 in the final minute.
