ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The San Francisco State women's basketball team held off a comeback from Sonoma State in the fourth quarter and made key free throws in the final 30 seconds to take a 67-63 win in the team's final visit to The Wolves' Den.
- The Gators improve 9-12 overall and 7-9 in the CCAA. The Gators sit in seventh in the CCAA with six games remaining. Five of the six teams they will play are above them in the conference rankings. Sonoma State falls to 11-10 and 9-6 in its final season. Sonoma State University recently announced that it will discontinue its Athletics prorgram at the end of the 2024-25 academic year.
- Nyana Asiasi set career highs in points (20) and three-point baskets (six) to lead the Gators to a win.
- Alexsandra Alvarado had 15 points and now has 985 career points and sits in 10th all-time on the points list. She has a chance to reach 1000 at home in the upcoming week.
- The Gators went 9-for-19 from three while the Seawolves shot 2-for-18.
- Geriah Bradley had a team-high seven assists and four steals.
- Alysa Lopez led Sonoma State with 19 points.
Neither team scored through the first three and a half minutes until a driving lay-up from Bradly broke the ice. Back-to-back baskets from Alvarado gave the Gators a 9-2 lead but the Seawolves worked away at it to make it a 14-12 Gator advantage after one quarter. The Gators led the entire second quarter but no more then two possessions. Up one with a minute to go, Kali Myers banked a three to put the Gators up 31-27.
A 7-0 run to open the third gave the Gators their first double-digit lead of the game. The Gators went into the final frame up 50-38 but the Seawolves were able to come back thanks to a 61.1 shooting percentage. Alysa Lopez's driving lay-up cut the Gators' lead to 64-62 with 2:24 remaining. The Gators turn over the ball while the Seawolves don't make shots. Alvarado fouls with 35 seconds to go but the Seawolves only make one shot at the line. Bradley is immediately fouled and makes one to reclaim the two point lead. On the Seawolves' possession, Sheriene Arikat pushed Alvarado who was guarding her and was called for an offensive foul with 16 seconds left. Asiasi was fouled and made both baskets to go up by four and essentially ice the game.
