LOS ANGELES — The San Francisco State baseball team played a back and forth final game with Cal State LA. They were an out away from extending it to the 11th inning but the Golden Eagles hit a walk-off homer to take it 9-7.
- SF State sits at 12-12 on the season and 8-8 in the CCAA. Cal State LA sits at 10-12 and 7-5 in the CCAA.
- Michael Cunningham, Daniel Murillo and Matt Sugden all had three hit days with Sugden being a triple away from the cycle.
- The Gators left 12 on base while LA only left five.
- Cunningham added two stolen bases two his season total.
- Justin Johnson added an extra base hit with a double.
After three quiet innings, the Gators got on the board first. Santos drew a walk and Sugden hit a full count double to left field to plate Santos. In the top of the fifth, Murillo and Allred were both in scoring position when Johnson hit a double down the left line to bring both in. The Golden Eagles got both runs back in the bottom of the inning as Alberto Prado hit a lead-off hit, Kadyn Victorian hit a two-out single and Malik Clayton brought them both home with a double. They took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth. With a pair of runs on first and second, Prado singled to advance both runners two bases and a passed ball allowed a runner a third to score.
The Gators took the lead back in the seventh. Allred singled and stole second and was brought home by Cunningham. Cunningham made his way to third and a single up the middle for Santos gave the Gators the lead back up 5-4. But LA had another two-run inning as a two-run blast put the Golden Eagles back up. Sugden tied the game again in the eighth with a solo home run and Allred gave the Gators the lead with a sac fly. LA tied the game again in the bottom of the inning with a fielder's choice allowing the run at third to score. Tied in the ninth, the Gators had a chance to take the lead with a runner in scoring position but could not capitalize and went into extra innings. The Gators were an out away from sending the game to the 11
th inning but a single followed by a home run ended the game.
- David Eichhorn went six innings. He gave up four runs with only two earned and tossed two strikeouts.
- Tyler Byrns made his season debut giving up two runs.
- Anthony Alvarez gave the Gators two innings of work and gave up a run and a hit while tossing two k's.
- Andrew Silva took his second loss of the week.
- Ismael Quintero earned the win in relief.
