BSB | Schifano Reaches 200 Career Wins as Offense Highlights Twinbill Split

TURLOCK — The San Francisco State baseball team recorded 37 hits between two games, falling in game one to Stanislaus State 16-11 but taking the win in game two 11-2.

With the win in game two, Head Coach Tony Schifano earned his 200th career win.

  • SF State sits at 17-14 on the season and 13-10 in the CCAA. Stanislaus State sits at 11-16 and 6-11 in the CCAA.
  • The Gators set a new season-high with 20 hits in game one but finished with 14 left on base.
  • Justin Johnson had his first multi-home run game of the season with two in game two, bringing his total to five. He is now tied with teammate Michael Cunningham with 20 career home runs. He went 3-for-4 in that game with five RBIs.
  • Daniel Murillo went 5-for-6 in game one with a home run, his ninth of the season. 
  • The Gator pitching staff tossed 12 strikeouts in game two and limited the Warriors to two hits.

How It Happened - Game One



Santos got the Gators on the board with a sac fly to center field. The Warriors equalized in the second with an RBI double down the left line. The Warriors took the lead in the third inning, scoring on a sac fly and a two-out RBI single. A three-run homer in the fourth put them up 6-2. The Gators got all of the runs back in the fifth, scoring the first two runs on back-to-back Rbi hits from Stephen Espinoza and Kyle Olimpia. The Gators scored the next two runs off wild pitches. The Warriors put up three runs in the bottom of the inning and another four to take a 13-6 lead through six innings. Down 14-8 in the eighth, Murillo hit a three-run bomb to make it manageable to come back from but Stanislaus added two more runs in the bottom of the inning and the Gators comeback bid fell short after that.

On The Mound - Game One


 

  • David Eichhorn only went 3.2 innings, tossing six strikeouts while giving up five runs off seven hits in a no decision start.
  • Edrian Rangel (0-2) took the loss in relief.
  • Andrew Silva and Scott Bauman also pitched in relief.
  • Patrick Sweeny (1-2) took the win in relief for Stanislaus. Noah Chelberg earned a save.

How It Happened - Game Two



The Gators scored first during a two-out rally in the second. With runners on the corners, Matt Sugden hit a RBI double to left. Nicholas Cook brought both runners home with a single down the left side to make it a 3-0 game. Johnson hit a two-run bomb over left field to extend the lead. In the fifth, Cunningham singled to center field with a pair of runners on, bringing the lead-off runner home. Johnson went over the center field wall for a three-run home run to extend the lead to 9-0. A pair of wild pitches from Alek Trukki in the fifth helped the Warriors added two runs. The Gators got both runs back in the sixth with a sac fly from Jackson Wood and an RBI single from Sugden.

On The Mound - Game Two


 

  • Aaron Roberts gave the Gators two scoreless innings of work to start the game. He had runners on third in both innings but was able to pitch his way out of it. He finished with a walk, a hit and three strikeouts thrown.
  • Alek Trukki (4-0) went three innings, giving up three walks, two runs and a hit while striking out six.
  • River Diaz De Leon closed out the game. He gave up two walks, no hits and struck out three.
  • Cameron Rosen (0-2) was charged with the loss.
