SAN FRANCISCO — The No. 24 San Francisco State softball team swept its last-ever doubleheader versus Sonoma State on Saturday at SFSU Softball Field. The Gators came out on top of a pair of close ballgames, 1-0 and 2-0.
- SF State, which is ranked No. 24 in the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, moves to 18-6 on the season and 7-3 in CCAA action. The Seawolves move to 14-13 overall and 4-8 in CCAA play.
- Marissa Jordan had a three-hit day and launched her second home run of the season in game two. She has the Gators' only two home runs this season.
- Kai DeLeon had a two-hit day and swiped her 59th and 60th stolen bases. She is now fourth all-time in program history in steals (60), eighth in runs (107), and 10th in hits (179) and walks (52).
- Marley Gonzales also stole her team-leading 18th base of the season. That gives Gonzales 58, which surpasses Nicole Hartfield (2004-07) for fifth on the program's all-time leader list.
- As a team, the Gators have 54 stolen bases. The Gators will crack the Top 10 in team single season history when they get to 56, set by the 2004 team.
- Rylee McDaniel was hit by a pitch in game two and now has nine, one behind CCAA leader McKenna Beach of Stanislaus State.
- Elise Roy and Mari Takeda Bajan each threw a five-pitch shutout for the Gators. Both pitchers are now 7-2 with Roy picking up a pair of wins in the series.
- In January, Sonoma State announced the discontinuation of its entire athletics program at the end of the 2024-25 season. Dating back to 1999, Sonoma State holds the head-to-head record, 65-49, though the Gators have won four of their last five meetings.
Game 1
- Roy (7-2) worked out of jams in the first two innings when the Seawolves had two on. She settled in and eventually retired nine in a row. She allowed a leadoff single in the sixth but got out of the inning with a 6-3 double play. She gave another leadoff single in the seventh but got three straight outs to end the game.
- Charlie Johnson (9-8) took the loss despite needing only 78 pitches to go six innings. She allowed one run on four hits. She walked one and struck out two.
Game 2
- SF State looked poised to take an early lead in the first inning on Jordan's fly ball to right. DeLeon tagged up but was thrown out at the plate by Morgan Kingsbury.
- In the third, DeLeon manufactured a run and got the Gators on the board all by herself. She led the inning with a single and scrambled to second on a throwing error. DeLeon swiped third and scored when the throw skipped past third base into left field.
- Jordan led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo shot to left center.
- The Gators neutralized a threat in the sixth inning when Gonzales picked off pinch runner Daniela Luden well off of first.
- SSU's Kaiya Dickens singled through the right side to begin the seventh but the Gators turned a 4-6-3 double play, and Kingsbury flew out to center to end it.
- Takeda Bajan (7-2) needed just 77 pitches for the complete-game effort and struck out a pair.
- The Seawolves used three pitchers. Starter Ava Paquin (2-2) allowed both runs, one earned, in four and two thirds innings. Emily Hinchey and Johnson both threw two thirds of an inning and did not give up a hit.
The Gators will next head to Cal State Monterey Bay for doubleheaders on Friday, March 14 and Saturday, March 15. The series will be broadcast on
