SAN FRANCISCO — David Eichhorn was nearly untouchable in a complete game shut-out as the San Francisco State baseball team took down Cal State Dominguez Hills 10-0 to settle for a series split.
- SF State improves to 11-9 on the season and sit a game back of first with a 7-5 record in the CCAA. The Toros fall to 12-9 but remain in first with a 8-4 in the CCAA.
- The game marked the third shut-out of the season, most in the conference so far.
- Justin Johnson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
- AJ Schrader hit his fourth home run of the season to give him 18 all-time and move into a tie for fourth. The record is 22.
- Michael Cunningham, Nicholas Allred and Justin Johnson all stole a base.
Schrader's two run shot over right field got the Gators on the board in the bottom of the second. The Toros had a chance to end the third without any damage as
Daniel Santos swung on strike three but the wild pitch went to the back stop, allowing the runner from third to advance home.
Matt Sugden ambushed the pitched with a first pitch hit up the middle to start the fourth. A bunt advanced the runner and Cunningham brought him home with another single up the middle. Cunningham stole second and Allred singled to left center to bring another run. Allred advanced all the way to third before Johnson put the ball in play to bring him home and make it a 6-0 game. The Toros ended
David Eichhorn's perfect game in the top of the fifth with a lead-off single but a double play erased the runner.
Johnson added another RBI to his tally with a sac fly in the bottom of the sixth. Schrader, Sugden and
Stephen Espinoza all singled, allowing a run to come across in the seventh. The Gators loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth. Schrader grounded out for one run to score and Cunningham knocked in another run to extend the lead to 10-0.
- Eichhorn (3-0) was all the Gators needed in his second career complete game. He was perfect through the first four innings before giving up one of his two hits given up on the afternoon. Eichhorn only faced one over the minimum and tossed six strikeouts. Through four games, he has a conference leading ERA of 1.13.
- Evan Vazquez (1-2) was charged with the loss.
