SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team's offense picked up where they left off in the previous series and took down Cal Poly Pomona 16-5. They recorded a season-high 22 hits.
- SF State improves to 19-14 on the season and 15-10 in the CCAA. Cal Poly Pomona falls to 13-25 and 10-19 in the CCAA.
- The entire starting line-up registered a hit with only one starter not having a multi-hit game. Daniel Santos went 3-for-4 with three runs. He currently has 212 career hits and moves into second all-time. One more hit will tie him with Mark Lindsay for most hits in program history.
- Michael Cunningham hit his CCAA leading 12th home run of the season to give him 21 career home runs, one shy of tying the all-time record.
- The Gators were able to position themselves to score thanks to eight wild pitches.
- SF State only struck out three times while Pomona struck out nine times.
- Daniel Murillo, Justin Johnson, Stephen Espinoza, and Derek Laferriere all had doubles. Laferriere also tripled and was a home run shy of the cycle.
Two no out hits in the second by Pomona sparked a three-run inning. Laferriere tripled in the bottom of the inning and
Kyle Olimpia brought him home on the next at bat. Olimpia recorded his second RBI of the game with an RBI single up the middle in the fourth. Murillo doubled to bring both runners home and take a 4-3 lead. The Broncos would tie the game in the top of the fifth but the Gators responded with a three run out put in the bottom of the inning. Espinoza singled up the middle and Laferriere cleared two runs on the bases with a doubles to give the Gators a 7-4 lead.
A sac fly brought another runner home for Pomona in the sixth. Cunningham hit a two-run bomb over left in the bottom of the inning. With runners on the corners, Laferriere and Olimpia each hit back-to-back singles to extend the lead to 11-5. With bases loaded and no outs in the seventh,
Jackson Wood fouled out for one run to score and Espinoza cleared the bases with a double to make it a 14-5 game. Johnson hit an RBI double in the eighth and came home thanks to a wild pitch and some miscommunication by the Pomona battery.
- Anthony Alvarez made a set-up start for Nathan Shinn and gave up his first run since March 16. He finished with there runs, six hits and three strikeouts through two innings.
- Shinn (6-2) went six innings in the win. He gave up seven hits and a walk but only one run. He also tossed six strikeouts to give him a CCAA leading 60 on the season. With 16 career wins, Shinn moves in a tie for second all-time. He also sits in second in innings pitched with 239.2.
- Andrew Silva pitched a scoreless frame in the ninth.
- Anthony Cosme (2-6) took the loss for Pomona.
