SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State baseball team swept a conference opponent for the first time this season and took down Cal Poly Pomona in the series finale 12-7.
- SF State improves to 22-14 on the season and 18-10 in the CCAA. With three series remained, they move into a tie for second in the CCAA with Cal State Monterey Bay. Cal Poly Pomona falls to 13-28 and 10-22 in the CCAA.
- Jackson Wood and Daniel Murillo each went 3-for-5 with two runs. Jackson added three RBIs
- Justin Johnson had a double to extend his on base streak to 30 games.
- AJ Schrader tripled for the second time this season. The Gators now lead the CCAA with 10 triples.
- Daniel Santos hit his 32nd career double, tied for fourth all-time.
- The Gators only struck out twice.
Murillo hit a lead-off single and
Nicholas Allred was plunked to start the bottom of the first. Both advanced on a wild pitch and Cunningham hit an RBI single for the first run. Wood singled to first to bring Allred home and Cunningham was able to come thanks to a bobble by the center fielder. The Broncos took advantage of bases loaded and no outs in the third and put up five runs to take the lead. A solo home run from Sebastian Arguelles extended Pomona's lead to 6-3 in the fourth. Wood singled and Schrader walked in the bottom of the inning.
Daniel Santos cleared the bases with a double down the left line to plate both runners home. Murillo singled to left to tie the game up.
A lead-off single by Pomona's Marco Malerba eventually came around to score in the sixth inning. The Gators had a pair of runners on first and second in the bottom of the inning with two outs.
Kyle Olimpia put the ball in play. The Broncos got the force play at second but over threw to first for the double play, allowing a Gator run to come home. Justin John doubled down the left line with Allred on third to score in the eighth. Wood singled to right to plate Johnson.
Derek Laferriere singled and Schrader brought them both home with a triple the roped the right field line to extend the Gators lead to 11-7. Cunningham hit an RBI single in the eighth to add insurance.
- Tyler Ohlson was strong through two innings but struggled to find the zone in the third inning. He gave up two walks, four hits and was charged with five runs.
- River Diaz De Leon went 3.1 innings, tossed two strikeouts and gave up two hits and two runs.
- Daniel Smith pitched a third of an inning, gave up a hit and a walk but was not charged with a run.
- Ryan Garza (2-3) went 2.2 innings and gave up a walk and a hit.
- Edrian Rangel got the final out against his former team.
- Andrew Campbell (1-1) was charged with the loss in relief.
