ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — Michael Cunningham and AJ Schrader both hit two-run homers that proved to be the difference in a 4-3 win over Sonoma State baseball.
Cunningham's was his 23rd career home run, most in in program history. He broke the record set by John Greenwood in 1988.
- SF State has now won seven straight and improved to 23-14 on the season and 19-10 in the CCAA. Sonoma falls to 11-29 and 8-23 in the CCAA.
- Cunningham went 3-for-4 for the Gators.
- Schrader's home run was the fifth of the season and 19th of his career.
- Stephen Espinoza was 2-for-4 with a double.
- The Gators had eight hits but also grounded out into two double plays and were picked off at first once.
The Gators were able to get base runners on through the first five innings but could not capitalize on any of them. Sonoma State broke through first in the bottom of the fifth when Brandon Marion hit an RBI single to right field.
Daniel Murillo drew a first pitch hit by pitch to open the sixth and Cunningham brought them both home with one swing of the bat. Schrader doubled up the score in the seventh with a no-doubter over the right field fence. A ground out with a runner at third for Sonoma made it a 4-2 game in the bottom of the inning. A two-out RBI double by Garret Barto in the eighth inning cut the Gator lead to one run. A single put runners on the corners but the Gators retired the next four batters to hold onto the win.
- Ryan Garza (3-3) held Sonoma hitless through four innings. He finished his day only giving up three hits, two runs and a walk. He also struck out three.
- Nick Bacura pitched an inning, giving up two hits, a walk and a run while striking out one.
- Tyler Ohlson picked up his first save and faced the minimum through 1.1 innings
- Blake Janowicz was on the hook for the loss.
