SAN FRANCISCO — The RV San Francisco State baseball trailed all throughout its series opener with Cal State East Bay. Down 4-3 in the ninth, Daniel Santos hit a solo shot to continue the game and Michael Cunningham scored on a wild pitch in the tenth to lead the Gators to a 5-4 victory.
- SF State improves to 27-15 on the season and 22-11 in the CCAA. East Bay falls to 16-27 and 12-21 in the CCAA
- Michael Cunningham was responsible for three of the Gators' five runs. He also had two stolen bases.
- Daniel Santos hit his second home run of the season.
- Nicholas Allred went 3-for-5 at the plate.
- Justin Johnson added an RBI to give him 114 career RBIs
- The pitching staff did not give up a walk to the Pioneers.
The Gators ran into trouble in the first with the bases loaded and one out. East Bay's Danelle Daniel's grounded to third who got the force out at home but the throw to first was off, allowing one run to score. The Pioneers put up three more runs off back-to-back hits in the third. The Gators finally got on the board in the fifth when
Jackson Wood hit a lead-off double and
Stephen Espinoza hit the ball sharply to second to allow Wood to come home. Cunningham made his way from first all the way to third on a wild pitch in the sixth and
Justin Johnson brought him home. With a pair of runners in scoring position in the eighth, Wood grounded out to first to allow a run to score. Down 4-3 in the ninth, Santos' home run ensured the Gators would play in extras. Cunningham hit a one-out single and advanced all the way to third off a failed pick-off attempt. A wild pitch skipped past the catcher and Cunningham easily found his way home.
- River Diaz De Leon made his first career start. He went two innings and one gave up an unearned run off two hits.
- Andrew Silva came on and did not make it past the third, giving up three runs off three hits.
- Nathan Shinn (8-2) kept the Pioneers off the board through eight innings, allowing seven hits and no walks. He tossed six strikeouts and sits atop the CCAA currently with 71. His ERA dropped down to 3.10.
- Max Gonzales, the CCAA's leader in ERA, largely kept the Gators in check through seven innings. He gave up two runs and allowed seven hits.
- Ryan Juric was charged with the loss.
