SEASIDE, Calif. — The RV San Francisco State baseball team fell behind 4-0 to Cal State Monterey Bay after one inning. They came within a run but ultimately fell 5-3.
- SF State falls to 29-17 on the season and 24-13 in the CCAA. With the win today and loss by Dominguez Hills, Monterey Bay joins the three teams in a three-way tie for first. Monterey Bay improves to 31-15 and 24-13 in the CCAA
- AJ Schrader had two of the three RBIs for the Gators. He went 1-for-3 with his sixth home run of the year to give him 20 all-time.
- Daniel Murillo was the only Gator with a multi-hit day, finishing 2-for-5.
- Justin Johnson and Stephen Espinoza each had doubles.
- The Gators struck out nine times while the Gator pitching staff only threw one strikeout.
Alek Trukki allowed four straight batters on base to start the game with the fourth drawing a four pitch RBI walk. Shinn came in to relieve Trukki. A bases loaded walk, fielder's choice and single allowed three more runs to give the Otters a 4-0 lead after one. Schrader got the Gators on the board in the fourth with a sac fly. He struck again in the seventh with a solo home run to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Justin Johnson hit a two-out double in the eighth. Wood drew a walk and
Stephen Espinoza hit a double to bring Johnson in. Schrader had a chance to do more damage but struck out. Monterey Bay added an insurance run in the eighth. The Gators put runners on the corners with one out in the ninth but could not bring the runners home.
- Alek Trukki (4-1) was on the hook for the loss with all four runs in the first inning credited to him.
- Nathan Shinn gave the Gators 6.1 scoreless innings of work, allowing seven hits and one walk. His ERA has shrunk down to 2.84 for the season.
- River Diaz De Leon pitched .2 innings and gave up a run.
- Nick Bacura pitched a scoreless frame for the Gators.
- Nate Rohlicek (4-2) earned the win for the Otters.
