MERCED, Calif. - After a strong first two quarters, San Francisco State women's basketball team could not find a rhythm on offense and fell to UC Merced 63-58.

After a back and forth start to the game, the Gators used a 12-3 run up by five to lead 27-15 near the end of the first quarter. Tegan Gaines had back-to-back three's to put the Gators up by double figures and Mayfield made a pair of shots at the line to make it a 12-point game. Elise LeBeau drove in a layup on Merced's finale possession to cut the Gators lead back to 10. Leilani Blecha completed a four-point play to get the Gators back up by 12 in the second quarter. Monique Cavness's lay-up with four minutes left in the quarter put the Gators up by 16. Fouls on defense allowed Merced to stay in the game but the Gators were able to maintain their double-digit lead and went into the locker room up 43-31.
After Darte scored a three to open the third quarter, Merced went on a 7-0 scoring run, forcing the Gators to call a time-out at 7:58 on the clock. Both teams went cold for nearly six minutes. Bradley made a jumper to break the ice only for Merced to respond on the next possession. The Bobcats cut the lead even further and made it a one-point game at the end of the third. Merced open up the fourth quarter with a basket to take their first lead since the first quarter. With a little under two to go, Gaines stole the basket and scored, giving the Gators a 58-57 lead. Merced scored on the next possession to take the lead. The Gators missed on their next possession and Merced was able to score from the line to maintain the lead.
