SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State volleyball team was able to swipe a set from No. 14 Cal Poly Pomona but ultimately fell in a non-conference match, 3-1 (15-25, 20-25, 25-21, 12-25).
Aidan Goodrich reached 1,000 career kills in the third set and became the tenth Gator to reach this milestone.
- SF State falls to 8-10 while Cal Poly Pomona improves to 16-4.
- Goodrich finished the match with 14 kills to give her 1,004 career kills. She is one of three Gators from the 2024 National Championship runner-up team (Izzy Isaak '25, Tamiya Wilson '26) who have recorded 1,000+ career kills.
- The Gators finished with six aces but also had 12 errors. Grace Witcher and Rubi Harrington each had two.
- Lilly Rix matched her career-high with five blocks.
- Melanie Hewlett finished with 29 assists.
- Rubi Harrington led the Gators with 18 digs.
Errors piled up early for the Gators as they took their first time-out down 7-3. The Gators were able to get within three down 11-8 but the Broncos were able to pull away and swing momentum in their direction.
The Gators were more competitive with the Broncos in set two. Down 17-12, four different players scored kills during a 5-1 run that cut the lead to one. The Broncos responded with four straight kills and an ace before a Gator time-out. A service error gave the Gators the serve back. Harrington landed an ace but the Gators could not get much else to go.
Tied at 13-13 in set three, the Gators took their largest lead of the evening after a 4-0 run thanks in part to a couple of Bronco errors. The Broncos came within one but were unable to retake the lead. Alana Larson had six kills to lead the Gators in the set.
After a big third set, a 7-0 start by the Broncos set the town for the rest of the set. Larson finally got the Gators on the board but service errors ruined any momentum.
The Gators host CSUEB again on Saturday, October 24 at 3 p.m. for their second pod game of the weekend. Live stats will be available at sfstategators.com and fans can watch the action on FloCollege. Tickets are available at sfstategators.com/tickets.
