How It Happened

The Gators opened the game slow and turned the ball over three times during a 8-0 start for the Lumberjacks. Humboldt extended the lead to 14 points late in the quarter but a three-point basket from Myhr cut the lead to 21-10 at the end of the quarter. The Gators found a groove in the second quarter and shot 57.14 percent from the field and from three to cut the deficit. A three from Leilani Blecha followed by a Humboldt turnover and lay-up from Athena cut the lead to 27-21 with 6:14 to go. Simone Murray sunk a buzzer-beater three to cut the deficit to 35-30 at halftime.

A 7-0 run to open the third gave the Lumberjacks a double-digit lead they were able to maintain the rest of the quarter. Down 16 with less than three minutes to go, the Gators put up a fight late and scored eight straight points to cut the lead with 1:57 to go. A missed three drained too much time off the clock and the Gators fell short of a comeback.
