SAN MARCOS, Calif. — The San Francisco State women's basketball team used a 27 point fourth quarter to beat Cal State San Marcos 72-64.
- SF State improves to 6-19 on the season and 4-15 in the CCAA. The Gators swept San Marcos for the first time in program history. Cal State San Marcos falls to 7-17 and 4-15 in conference.
- The win marks the first win at San Marcos since December 8, 2018.
- The 13 3-point baskets were the most scored this season.
- Samantha Myhr and Tegan Gaines each had 18 points. The 18 points were a career-high for Gaines.
- Deonna Mayfield had her first double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
- The Gators shot 45.6 percent from the field and 46.4 from deep.
- San Marcos' Kaity Haan had 14 points and 13 rebounds
Down 13-6 in the first quarter, Myhr had a pair of threes to get the Gators back within a possession and Leilani Blecha scored on a put-back lay-up to cut the score to 15-14 at the end of the first. San Marcos retook the lead early in the second and used a 7-0 run to lead 25-16. The Gators relied on good three-point shooting late in the quarter to come back. Teagan Gaines had a pair of threes and Blecha gave the Gators' their first lead with a corner three. Kaity Haan stole the ball and scored to give the Cougars a 30-29 advantage at the end of the second.
A three from Myhr tied the game early in the third. Tied at 36-36, the Cougars went on a 8-0 run. The Gators made three straight threes to cut the lead to one but the Cougars closed out the quarter 5-0. The Gators were dominate in the fourth and shot 69.2 percent from the field and 4-for-5 from deep. Myhr dropped a deep three to tie the game at 60-60 and Athena Brombacher drove in a lay-up on the next possession to give the Gators a 62-60 lead with 3:33 to go. Gaines made it a multi-possession game with a three-pointer with 1:10 on the clock. San Marcos missed the lay-up on the next possession and had to foul the rest of the way. The Gators got it done at the line to keep the lead and win.
