SEASIDE, Calif. — The San Francisco State women's basketball fell behind early and could never get back into the game in a 70-51 loss to Cal State Monterey Bay.
- SF State falls to 6-20 on the season and 4-16 in the CCAA. Monterey Bay improves to 13-12 and 10-10 in the CCAA
- Athena Brombacher had a team-high 16 points. Tegan Gaines had 15 and scored in double figures in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
- The Gators only got two point from the bench.
- SF State turned the ball over 23 times, leading to 29 points from the Otters.
- The Gators shot 37.5 percent from the field and only 22.7 from deep.
After a close start to the game, the Otters went on a 20-4 run to lead 25-10 with 30 second left in the first. Gaines provided most of the scoring for the Gators in the first and added eight points, including a three on the final possession for the Gators to cut the lead down to 25-13. Mayfield had a three-point play to cut the Otter lead down to eight a little over a minute into the second quarter. A three-point basket with 6:30 to go by the Otters gave them a double-digit lead again. The Gators did not get much going the rest of the quarter and trailed 40-23 at halftime. The Otters shot 70.0 percent from the field in the third quarter to lead by 27 and put the game out of reach.
