NAMPA, Idaho - The San Francisco State softball team saw its offense come to life in a 12-6 win over Central Washington and was able to limit any damage done by RV Northwest Nazarene in a 5-2 victory.
- The Gators improve to 8-5 on the season. Northwest Nazarene falls to 9-5 while Central Washington falls to 3-7
- SF State matched its single game season high of nine stolen bases in game one against CWU. In total, the Gators had 12 on the day.
- The Gators set a new season high in hits in a game with 13 against CWU.
- Defensively, the Gators played much cleaner and only recorded one error. They also had a double play in each game.
- Malia Morreira had five RBIs on the day including four against CWU.
- Morreira, Marissa Jordan and Olivia Mares each hit a double on the day.
Mares opened the game getting on first, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Taylor Wilson drew a hit by pitch and drew a throw from the catcher on an attempt to steal second. She forced a pickle and gave Mares enough time to run home and score before getting tagged out. Central Washington's Jessica Reitz-Eaton drew a walk in the second, stole second and came home off a single to left to tie the game. With a pair of runners in scoring position, Morreira singled up the middle to bring both runners' home in the top of the third. Central Washington's Jadyn Holdren hit an RBI single in the bottom of the third to cut the Gators' lead to 3-2.
The Gators did most of their damage in the fourth. With bases loaded, Marissa Jordan hit an RBI single to left. Ashley Rocha reached on a fielder's choice that allowed a runner to cross. Morreira hit a double to left center for two RBIs and Olivia Moscardi capped off the inning with a single to left center for two more RBIs to lead 9-2. In the top of the fifth, the Gators went to execute the double steal with runners on first and third and brought a runner home. Holdren hit a solo shot the right field in the fifth and Central Washington added another run in the sixth to cut the Gators lead to 10-4. Mares and Shaunessy Cardwell both had RBIs to get the runs back in the top of seventh. Central Washington scratched two runs across in the bottom of the inning but the Gators held on for the win.
- Kharime Caratachea (3-3) gave the Gators five innings of work and struck out four batters. She gave up five walks, three hits and three runs.
- Alexis Perez pitched the final two innings in relief and gave up three runs.
- Central Washington used three pitchers with starter Reese Anderson (0-3) taking the loss.
Northwest Nazarene had a pair of runners in scoring position before Hailey Harris singled to bring both runs home. Mares reached on a fielders' choice in the third and advanced to second. Morreira hit an RBI single to left, stole second and reached third on a wild pitch. Cardwell drew a walk and stole second, allowing Morreria to come home. Wilson and Jordan hit back-to-back singles to give the Gators the lead up 4-2. In the top of the fourth with two outs and runners on the corners, Mares got stuck in a pickle but bought enough time for the runner to score.
The Gators faced runners on the base paths during the next four innings but made good defensive plays and stayed calm to keep the Nighthawks off the board. Tori Hernandez induced a ground-out to herself in a bases loaded situation with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Cardwell ended the sixth when she caught a line-out and tagged first for a double play. The Nighthawks looked to break through in the final inning with two outs and runners on. Lauryn Bergevin hit the ball to deep right center but Mares laid out to catch the ball and end the game.
- Tori Hernandez (1-0) had a strong start in the circle to earn her first collegiate win, going five innings. She struck out six and gave up four hits and two runs. Five of the seven walks she allowed were in the fourth inning or later.
- Alexis Perez pitched a second straight game in relief, this time picking up her first save. She allowed a walk and a hit but no runs were scored.
- Starter Hailey Harris (1-2) took the bad luck loss will all three runs charged to her unearned.
