SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco State women's basketball team trailed early and could never catch-up in a 84-66 loss to Cal State LA.
 

By the Numbers

• SF State falls to 5-17 on the season and 3-13 in the CCAA. Cal State LA improves to 16-5 and 13-3 in the CCAA
• Samantha Myhr had a team-high 18 points and matched her career-high of six three-point baskets.
• The Golden Eagles dominated the paint and scored 50 of their points there. The Gators only had 22 points.
• Tegan Gaines grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds.
• The Gators shot 38.5 percent from the field while the Golden Eagles shot 46.7.

How It Happened

The Gators looked to get their three-point shooting going early but went 0-for-8 from deep in the first quarter. Athena Brombacher tied the game at 13-13 with under a minute to go, but the Golden Eagles scored and forced a turn-over on the next possession to go up 18-13. The Golden Eagles extended their lead to 13 points with six minutes left in the second quarter. The Gators went on a 8-2 run with Leilani Blecha and Simon Murray each scoring threes to cut the deficit. Myhr cut it even further with a three to make it a 35-29 game. But back-to-back baskets from the Golden Eagles gave them a double-digit lead as they led 42-31 at halftime. A lay-up from Gaines followed by a scoop and score basket from Myhr made it an eight-point game. A 7-0 run near the end of the quarter gave LA their largest lead yet at 16 points. The Golden Eagles shot 66.7 from the field in the fourth to close out the game and secure the win.
