SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State softball team dropped a pair of doubleheaders to Cal State Dominguez Hills to open the weekend. They fell 14-3 in game one and lost game 6-5.
- The Gators fall to 20-21 and 9-11. Cal State Dominguez Hills improve to 29-20 and 11-15 in the CCAA
- SF State gave up three errors in game one and two in game two.
- The Gators gave up several extra base hits throughout the day. They gave up four doubles, a triple and a home run in game one. They also gave up three doubles and a home run in game two.
- Ashley Rocha continued to be productive at the plate and was the only Gator to have a multi-hit game in either game. She went 2-for-3 in game one and added a triple.
- Olivia Mares had her first home run, an inside the park hit down the left field line.
Back-to-back doubles led to a run by the Toros. Rocha's bunt single was the only offense the Gators got in the first four innings. The Toros took a 10-0 lead heading into the fifth inning. With two outs and in danger of being run-ruled, Anaissa Del Rio kept the game going by reaching on an error. Mares singled to third and Rocha brought them all home with a triple. Olivia Moscardi hit an RBI double to plate a third run and allow the game to continue. The Toros added another four runs in the top of the seventh and the Gators could only scratch one more run across in the bottom of the inning.
- Alexis Perez (13-8) only lasted 3.1 innings before being pulled. She gave up six runs off six hits and a walk.
- Tori Hernandez pitched the rest of the way and gave up eight runs with only three earned.
- Ashley Ogata (11-6) pitched four innings to take the win.
With Toros runners on the corners to start the game, the runner at first went to steal second. The throw went into the outfield, allowing the runner at third to score. Marissa Jordan tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the inning. The Toros added two runs in the second and Mireya Rico hit a three-run homer in the third to extend the lead to 6-5. Kate Nelson responded in the bottom of the innings with a three-run homer of her own. Olivia Mares hit a sharp hit down the left field line and showed off her speed with an inside the park home run to cut the lead to one run. The Gators were retired in order in the next three innings to end the comeback.
- Kharime Caratachea (6-13) was ruffled early but buckled down in the final four innings, retiring ten straight batters. She gave up 12 hits and six runs with four earned while striking out four.
- Audrey Gallegos who came in relief for Dominguez Hills picked up the win.
