SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State softball team fell in both games of its doubleheader with Cal State Dominguez Hills. They fell 6-1 in game one and could not walk it off in game two, falling 16-9 in the eighth inning.
- The Gators fall to 20-23 and 9-13, knocking them to sixth in the conference. Cal State Dominguez Hills improve to 31-20 and 13-15 in the CCAA and jumped into third.
- SF State gave up a season-high 22 hits in game two.
- Extra base hits by the Toros continued to give the Gators problems. They had five in game one and four in game two.
- Shaunessy Cardwell added two more walks to give her 29 on the season, tied for fourth most in a single season.
- Olivia Moscardi and Kate Nelson each doubled in both games. Moscardi also homered in game two.
Three straight doubles lead to a pair of runs for the Toros to open the first. Ashley Rocha hit a lead-off single, advanced to second on a sac bunt and was brought home on Nelson's double to left. A three-run homer put Dominguez Hills up 5-1 in the third inning. The Gators only put a runner in scoring position one more time the rest of the game and the Toros added one more run in the sixth.
- Alexis Perez (13-9) only lasted 2.1 innings in the loss. She gave up seven hits and seven runs
- Tori Hernandez was effective in relief. She gave up three hits, two walks and a run and struck out three
- Ashley Ogata (12-4) pitched a complete game and limited the Gators to five hits and a run.
The Toros scored first on a sac fly in the first. Rocha opened game two with a lead-off single, stolen second and scored when Cardwell singled to center. Nelson singled to place two runners on. Moscardi doubled to bring Cardwell home and Taylor Wilson hit the ball right in front of home plate with no play for the catcher to give the Gators a 3-1 lead. The Toros loaded the bases with no outs in the third, leading to three runs to retake the lead. The Toros hit an RBI single in the fourth to extend the lead to 5-3. Moscardi provided some momentum shift in the bottom of the fifth. With bases loaded, she hit a ball that bounced off the outfield fence to land out of play for her first grand slam.
The Toros scored two runs in the sixth and seventh to retake the lead 7-5 heading into the seventh. Marissa Jordan drew a lead-off walk and came home from first off a double from Nelson. With two outs and Nelson on third, Anaissa Del Rio came in to pinch hit and hit an RBI double to tie the game. Rocha had a chance to walk it off with Gators on the corners but her ball to left was caught. The Toros scored seven runs in the next inning to take the game.
- Kharime Caratachea (6-14) went 7.2 innings, giving up 21 hits and 15 runs and six walks. She also struck out six.
- The Toros used three pitchers with Ogata (13-4) coming in and pitching the final four innings for the win.
The Gators have canceled their Monday, April 20 match-up with Stanislaus due to rain. They'll stay local and play at Cal State East Bay on April 24. Game one of the doubleheader starts at 1:00 p.m. Fans can follow on FloCollege.
