HAYWARD, Calif. — The San Francisco State softball team fell to #10 Cal State East Bay 8-3 in game one but salvaged the series with a 3-1 victory in game two.
- The Gators sit at 21-26 and 10-16 in the CCAA. With one more series to go, the Gators will need to win their series with Cal State Monterey Bay and need help from Cal State San Marcos in their series with Cal State San Bernardino to make postseason. East Bay improves to 37-11 and 19-9 in the CCAA.
- Kate Nelson was 4-for-4 on the day including 3-for-3 with a double in game two.
- Shaunessy Cardwell hit a double in game two to give her 17 on the season, one short of tying the single season record.
- The Gators had three double plays between two games.
- Extra base hits by the Pioneers were the difference between game one and two. The Pioneers hit five doubles in game one but only one in game two.
Rocha drew a lead-off walk, stole second and came home when Jordan hit a single up the middle for the first run of the game. Kate Nelson and Deziree Gomez each had back-to-back RBI singles. The Pioneers responded with a three-run inning of their own to tie the game up. The Pioneers put up a five-spot in the second to take a 8-3 lead. The Gators had a pair of inning ending double plays in the third and fourth to limit the damage any further. Offensively, the were unable to get much going past that.
- Alexis Perez (13-11) only went 1.1 innings before being relieved. She gave up eight runs off nine hits and a walk
- Kharime Caratachea went 4.2 innings and gave up five hits and two walks but was not charged with a run.
- Marissa Quintero (25-4), pitched another complete game for the Pioneers, shaking off a three-run first to keep the Gators off the board the rest of the way.
The teams were in a stalemate until the fourth inning. Nelson hit a two-out double to left and Gomez hit an RBI single for the first run of the game. The Gators had another two-out rally in the fifth inning. Malia Morreira singled and Cardwell brought her home with a double to center. Nelson hit a lead-off single in the sixth, advanced to second off a sac bunt and came home when Taylor Wilson doubled to right field. With only one out remaining down 3-0 with runners on the corners, East Bay singled to bring in one run and loaded the bases after that. The Gators were able to get the force out at third with the next batter to take the game.
- Tori Hernandez (2-1) had her best performance of the season, going scoreless through 6.2 innings before giving up the lone run. She gave up seven hits on the day with four coming in the seventh inning.
- Jaidyn Gamble (10-7) took the loss, giving up 10 hits and three runs.
