SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco State softball team saw their postseason chances dash away with a pair of losses to Cal State Monterey Bay. The Gators had chances to walk-off game one but ended up falling 5-4 in the ninth. They fell 6-4 in game two.
- The Gators fall to 21-28 and 10-18 in the CCAA. With the losses, the Gators will not make the CCAA Tournament. The Otters improve to 31-20 and 14-16 to clinch the final seed in the tournament.
- Errors were an issue throughout the day. The Gators had four in game one that all lead to unearned runs. The finished with two in game two.
- With 131 stolen bases on the season, the Gators set a new single season record in stolen bases.
- Olivia Mares had two stolen bases in game one to give her 40 on the year. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate in game two.
- Deziree Gomez had a triple in game one.
Errors cost the Gators a pair of unearned runs in the first inning. The Gators had a pair of runners in scoring position in the third. Shaunessy Cardwell grounded out to bring in one run and Marissa Jordan hit an RBI single to bring another run in. The Gators loaded the bases in the fourth inning with no outs but only added two runs, both by sac fly. The Otters hit a pair of RBI doubles in the fifth to tie the game up. Mares drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out but could not advance home for the game winning run. The Gators looked to go into the bottom of the ninth tied but a two-out pop fly slipped through Gomez's glove and the Otters capitalized and scored a run. Ashley Rocha was at second in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. She went to swipe third and got there safely but video review deemed she left early and Rocha was called out.
- Alexis Perez (13-12) took the hard luck loss with all five of her runs given up going down as unearned. She gave up ten nits but did not walk a batter and struck out three.
- Kadence Nulick (12-9) picked up the win, giving up nine hits, four runs with two being earned and two walks.
Cardwell hit a sac fly to get the Gators on the board first in the first inning. The Otters loaded up the bases and Abreanna Alba hammered a ball to deep right center to clear the bases and put the Otters up 3-1. Another bases loaded situation allowed the Ottersto bring two more runs in during the top of the fifth. The Gators had a pair of runners in scoring position in the sixth and Kate Nelson brought both home with a double. Monterey Bay got an insurance run in the seventh with a home run over the right center fence to go up 6-3. The Gators loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning but could only bring one runner home.
- Tori Hernandez (2-2) pitched all seven innings. She limited the Otters to five hits but gave up six walks. She tossed four strikeouts.
- Jordan Knutson (11-5) gave up nine hits but limited the Gators to four runs.
The Gators close out the season with a doubleheader against Monterey Bay at 11 a.m. on May 2. Prior to the start of the game, the Gators will honor seniors Shaunessy Cardwell, Marissa Jordan, Ashley Rocha and Taylor Rapp. Fans can follow on FloCollege.
