Gators Fall in Regular Season Home Finale

San Francisco, Calif-- San Francisco State University Gators' women's basketball team finished the regular season with a 63-47 loss to the visiting UC San Diego Tritons (22-8, 14-6 CCAA) this evening at SF State's Main Gymnasium. With the loss, SF State finishes the season 14-13 overall and 11-9 in the CCAA and will play UC San Diego this Tuesday, March 4 in the first round of the CCAA Basketball Championships in La Jolla, California.
            “Tonight's game was an intense, as well as physical play-off basketball,” said SF State Head Coach Joaquin Wallace. “We played well defensively, however, we were unable to convert on easy baskets,” added Wallace. “Hopefully, we will be able to play well offensively Tuesday night in the First Round play-offs.”
            SF State outscored the Tritons 14-9 in the first seven minutes, but UC San Diego went on a 9-4 run to take a 18-14 lead on a three by Meaghan Noud. The Gators cut the Triton lead to 22-21 with 5:53 to go in the game, but UC San Diego went on an11-4 run to end the half with a 33-25 lead.
            The Tritons increased their lead to 39-25 with 17:46 to go on an Alexis Gaskin jumper. SF State cut the Triton lead to 39-30 on a lay-up by Krystle Mays (Jr, G, Long Beach, Calif/Chatsworth HS) at the 16:44 mark. UC San Diego increased its lead to 47-30 with 10:52 to go in the game. The Gators cut the Triton lead back to single digits 49-40 on a Brio Rode (Sr, F, Albuquerque, NM/Seward CC) lay-up, but UC San Diego finished the game outscoring its hosts 14-7 to take a 63-47 victory.
            Jessica Hout-Freeman (So, G, Fremont, Calif/Washington HS) led the Gators with 12 points while Rode chipped in 11 and Mays added 10. Michelle Osier led the Tritons with a game high 21 points and 15 rebounds. Meaghan Noud added 15 and Erin Noonan chipped in 12.
