Christina Johnson had season-high 24 digs on Friday vs. Cal Poly Pomona

SAN FRANCISCO  - The San Francisco State women's volleyball team came up short in its 2008 California Collegiate Athletic Association opener Friday night, falling to No. 23 Cal Poly Pomona in four sets (25-23, 17-25, 22-25, 21-25) at the Main Gymnasium.   With the defeat, the Gators slipped to 6-3 on the season and 0-1 in league play, while Broncos raised their record to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the CCAA.

SF State was led by freshman Brittany Powell (Chula Vista, Calif.), who hit .533 for the match on 10 kills to go along with six block assists.  Freshman setter Mary Maiocco (Bakersfield, Calif.) also helped the Gator cause with 21 assists, while freshman libero Christina Johnson (Wildomar, Calif.) posted a season-high 24 digs.
"We played inconsistently tonight and never got into a rhythm offensively,” said SF State head coach Michelle Patton.  "We will need to be a lot more aggressive tomorrow against Cal State San Bernardino.”
The Gators will play host to the No. 1 ranked Coyotes on Saturday at the Main Gym.  First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
