Strong Second Half By Warriors Keys Win over SF State

Martin Flores Was One of Four Gators To Score in Double Figures

TURLOCK, Calif.--- The Cal State Stanislaus Warriors used a strong second half in which they outscored the visiting SF State Gators (11-8, 5-7 CCAA) 45-32 to key their 74-64 win this evening in Warrior Arena in Turlock.  With the loss, SF State had its three-game winning streak snapped and moved the Gators into a tie for seventh place in the conference with Cal State LA.

"Both teams got what they deserved," said SF State Head Coach Bill Treseler.  "Stanislaus outfough us, outrebounded us, and outcoached us--hats off to them," added Treseler.  "We have been on the road for a long time and it will be great to get home."

The Warriors jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the first six minutes of the game, but the Gators went on a 10-2 run capped by a Ryan Wessels' lay-up to take its first lead 18-17 in the next three minutes.  SF State increased its lead to 32-28 and took a 32-29 lead into the locker room.  

CSU Stanislaus (6-11, 2-10 CCAA) started off the second half straong outscoring its visitors 16-6 to take a 45-38 lead seven minutes into the second half.  The Gators cut the lead to 45-44 with 11:47 to go on a Martin Flores' lay-up, but Cal State Stanislaus went on a 12-2 run capped by a Rod Stephens' lay-up  to take a 57-46 lead with just a little over six minutes to go in the game.  

SF State cut lead to single digits with 2:43, when Brad Visman (Placerville, California, UC Riverside) scored on a lay-up to make it 62-53 Warriors.   CSU Stanislaus built its lead to 69-55 with 65 seconds to go in the game, and then connected on 5 of 6 of its attempts from the line to take a 74-64 victory.

Michael Dyson scored a career high 20 points to lead the way for the Warriors, who shot 48% from the field including 60% in the second half.  Matt Ibewiro recorded a double-double for Cal State Stainslaus scoring 16 points and grabbing a game high 15 rebounds while Benny Koochoie added 11 points and four assists.  The Warriors also out-rebounded SF State 40-28.

Four players scored in double digits for the Gators led by Robert Hayes (San Diego, California, St. Augustine's) with 14 points.  Martin Flores (Woodland, California, Solano Junior College) added 12 points while Alex Thomas (Vallejo, California, Dominican University)and Ryan Wessels (Napa, California, Napa Valley College)each chipped in 10 points.

SF State will begin a four-game home stand this Friday, February 6 as the Gators host Sonoma State with tip-off scheduled for 7:30pm.  The Gators will finish off their 2008-09 regular season with seven of their final eight games at home.
