Gators and Wolves Play To a 1-1 Tie

Andrea Carey Assisted on Carly Bliss' Second Goal of the Season in the Gators' 1-1 Tie with Western Oregon
SAN FRANCISCO--- SF State women' soccer team and the visiting Western Oregon Wolves (1-2-1) played to a 1-1 double overtime this afternoon in a non-conference match at SF State's Cox Stadium. With the tie, the Gators are now 2-1-1 and will begin their conference season this Friday, September 11 in La Jolla for a 4:30pm starting match with UC San Diego.
            “We have to put away our chances,” said SF State Head Coach Jack Hyde. “Then at the end we let a silly error in the back cost us the victory,” added Hyde. “As a team, we need to tighten up everywhere.” “I am excited to get the conference season going this coming week, every game will be like this one,” stated Hyde.
             Both teams played a scoreless first half as the Gators out-shot the Wolves 4-1, but SF State came out in the second half outplaying Western Oregon. SF State had 10 shots to the Wolves three including 4-0 on shots on goal. Carly Bliss (San Diego, California, Ranch Bernardo) connected on the Gators' goal at the 66:45 off a pass from Andrea Carey (Fresno, California, San Joaquin Memorial) to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. This was Bliss' second goal of the season.

            The game remained 1-0 Gators, until the nine seconds of regulation when Jessica Hicks connected off a free kick from Rachelle Kliewer than Naomi Shimabuki tapped in to Hicks for the game-tying goal.
            SF State controlled the two overtime periods with the Gators recording 3 shots to the Wolves' one. The Gators also had three shots on goal attempt to Western Oregon's zero. The home team also had six corner kicks with all of them coming in the final three periods. SF State also had 17 shots to the Wolves' 5.
          Rachel Lauderdale (Mission Viejo, California, Laguna Hills)was in goal for the Gators while Brittney Rigtrup had one save in the first half for Western Oregon and Kelsie Blachly had seven in the second half and the two overtime periods.
