TURLOCK – SF State's women's soccer team lost their first game since losing 2-1 at Cal State Dominguez Hills on September 19, a string of nine games. The Gators lost this afternoon at CCAA North Division rival, Cal State Stanislaus, 4-1 this afternoon in Turlock. With the loss, the Gators fall to 10-3-3 overall and 9-3-2 in the CCAA and remain in first place in the North Division by just one point over second place Cal State Stanislaus (11-4-1, 9-4-1 CCAA).
“We did not play one of our better games of the season,” said SF State Head Coach
Jack Hyde. “We cannot expect to win the conference by playing this way,” added Hyde. “On a positive note,
Myriah Johnson (Lakewood, Washington, Clover Park) goal was great, but it was not enough.”
The Warriors outshot the Gators 20-8 including 14-2 in the first half and also had more shot on goal attempts than SF State, 10-5.
Karenee Demerey started the scoring barrage for Cal State Stanislaus in the 10th minute as she connected on a pass from Alisa Barlow from Briana McClain. The score remained 1-0 Warriors until the 64th minute of second half, when Demery connected on her 17th goal of the season on a breakaway off a pass from Marissa Dunaway.
Kim DiNardo increased the hosts lead to 3-0 in the 70th minute as she hit a header off a free kick by Sierra Casas.
Myriah Johnson put the Gators on the board in the 75th minute as she connected on a long shot from 30 yards out for her team high 6th goal of the season. Alexa Poon finished the scoring for the day as she gave Cal State Stanislaus a 4-1 lead connected on a pass from Dunaway with just four minutes left in the game.
SF State's
Annicia Jones (Sacramento, California, West Campus), who saw her shutout streak snapped at nine, recorded four saves in goal for SF State while Millie Brown had four saves in goal for Cal State Stanislaus.
The Gators will finish the regular season with two home games this weekend. On Friday, SF State will host Sonoma State at 3pm at Cox Stadium. Then on Sunday at 2pm, SF State will host Humboldt State in its regular season home finale beginning. This will also be Senior Day as the Gators will recognize its seniors in
