SAN BERNARDINO--- SF State sophomore goalkeeper
Annicia Jones (Sacramento, California, West Campus) recorded six saves including a game-saving save late in the second half in the Gators' 1-0 road conference win at Cal State San Bernardino this afternoon. This was Jones' eighth shutout of the season which broke the school record for shutouts in a season.
“We went ahead in the 31st minute on a great combination from
Myriah Johnson (Lakewood, Washington, Clover Park) to
Michelle Spinner (Bakersfield, California, Stockdale),” said SF State Head Coach
Jack Hyde. “Spinner lived up to her name as she made a couple of spin moves and then buried into the right side of the goal,” added Hyde. “Once again,
Annicia Jones made some key saves including one game saving one late in the game.”
The two teams played an even first half until the 31st minute when Spinner connected on her second goal of the season off the pass from Johnson. The Coyotes had a chance to tie the game in the 38th minute, but Jones stopped Jani Carmona's attempt to send both teams into the locker room with a Gator lead of 1-0.
In the second half, the Gators came out strong with two shot on goal attempts by
Michelle Kay (Campbell, California, Presentation HS) and
Myriah Johnson. Cal State San Bernardino (5-5-1, 3-5-1 CCAA) had its final attempt to tie the game in the 74th minute when Jordan Cleary's attempt was stopped by Jones.
With the win, the Gators won their fifth straight game this afternoon to improve to 7-2-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Jones had six saves in goal for the Gators while Tiffany Mallick and Jessica Motoral hada combined four saves in goal for the Coyotes.
