Phoenix O'Rourke Had a Team High 13 Points This Evening in SF State's Regular Season Finale
POMONA--- In both team's 2009-10 regular season finale, it was the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos defeating the SF State Gators 77-54 behind 59% shooting from the field including 54.5% from three-point land. With the win, Cal Poly Pomona is the co-champion of the CCAA with Humboldt State and by virtue of tie-breakers gets the number one seed in the 2009-10 CCAA Basketball Championships that start this Tuesday, March 2. SF State gets the number six seed and will face Cal State San Bernardino this Tuesday at 7pm in San Bernardino.

“I am not sure whether Cal Poly Pomona was better on offense or on defense, but this certainly gives us a clear idea of where we need to be next week,” said SF State Head Coach Bill Treseler. “Mike Lavelle (San Francisco, California, Skyline College) fought hard tonight for us and had one of his best games of the season.”

Cal Poly Pomona (20-5, 18-4 CCAA) started the game scoring the first seven points of the game including five by Austin Swift, who finished the night with 14 points and six assists. SF State cut the Bronco lead to 11-6 at the 14:19 mark on a jumper by Derek Fletcher (San Jose, California, Branham), but Cal Poly Pomona followed that outscoring the Gators 20-4 in the next eight minutes to take a 31-10 lead with 6:22 left in the half.

The Gators (17-13, 10-12 CCAA) cut the hosts lead to 15 (31-16) on Nefi Perdomo (Oakland, California, Skyline )two made free throws with 4:19 to go in the first half, but Cal Poly Pomona finished the half outscoring its visitors 8-6 to take a 39-22 lead into the locker room.

The Gators would not go away as Phoenix O'Rourke (San Mateo, California, Junipero Serra)connected on three consecutive three-pointers followed by a lay-up to cut the Broncos lead to 64-48, but that is the closest SF State could get as Cal Poly Pomona took the 77-54 victory.
