Sonoma State Hangs On To Defeat Gators, 78-75

Tim Pratt Led the Way for the Gators with a Career High 22 Points

ROHNERT PARK, Calif.---  Sonoma State's duo of Steven Pratt and Patrick Scott combined for 44 of the Seawolves' 78 points to key their 78-75 victory over the visiting SF State Gators this evening in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) game at Seawolf Gym in Rohnert Park.  The Gators had four of their players score in double digits led by Tim Pratt's season high 22 points.

This weekend was an improvement in terms of competitiveness, but we are out here to win games and our defense is not where it needs to be,” said SF State Head Coach Bill Treseler.  “I know there are some good things ahead for this team.”

Phoenix O'Rourke (San Mateo, California, Junipero Serra)three at the 16:05 mark of the first half capped a 9-3 run for the Gators.  Sonoma State followed that SF State run with a 14-6 run of its own to take a 17-15 lead with 10 minutes left in the half.  SF State cut the Seawolf lead to three (24-21) in the next five minutes on a Marquel Hoskins (Beloit, Wisconsin, Reedley College)lay-up, but Sonoma State finished the half outscoring its visitors 14-0 to take a 35-24 lead into the locker room.

The Gators outscored Sonoma State(8-13, 7-9 CCAA) in the beginning of the second half, going on a 13-2 run capped by a Tim Pratt (Eureka, California, College of the Redwoods) lay-up off an assist from Hoskins to cut the hosts' lead to 37-32 in the first three minutes.  Sonoma State increased its lead back to 10 (43-33) on a Steven Pratt lay-up at the 15:09 mark.

SF State would not go away as the Gators' Aaron Trigg (Suisun City, California, Napa Valley College) old-fashioned three-point play at the 10:33 mark capped a 14-2 run by the Gators to cut Sonoma State's lead to 47-45.

The Seawolves held the Gators scoreless in the next three minutes to take a 55-47 lead and increased their lead to 11 (64-53) on a lay-up by Pratt.  SF State still would not go away as the Gators went another run (this one a 17-4 run) to cut the Seawolf lead to just three (70-67) with 36 seconds to go in the game.

Sonoma State made all of its four free throw attempts to increase its lead to 76-70, but O'Rourke's three once again cut the hosts lead to 76-73 with just 8 seconds on the clock.  Sonoma State's Pratt made both of his free throw attempts to increase the Seawolves' lead back to 5 (78-73).  Jeremy Francis (San Francisco, California, Mayville State University)lay-up made the final 78-75.

Pratt had 24 points to lead the way for Sonoma State while Scott added 20 points for the Seawolves.

Hoskins finished with 15 points and 9 assists for SF State (13-10, 6-9 CCAA) while O'Rourke added 14 and Nefi Perdomo (Oakland, California, Skyline ) chipped in 14 for the Gators, who begin a five-game home stand this Wednesday, February 10th at 7:30pm when they host Cal State Monterey Bay.
