Records Fall as Gators Post Two Provisional Qualifying Marks at UW Indoor Preview

Tyler Dalbey ran the opening leg of the Gators' record-setting 4x400 relay team on Saturday.

SEATTLE San Francisco State's Dominique Knowles (triple jump) and the 4x400 relay team of Tyler Dalbey, Carrie Thomas, Keenya McDaniel and Alicia Chambers established new school records on Saturday to highlight a series of impressive performances by the Gator track and field squad at the University of Washington's Indoor Preview meet.

With their efforts, Knowles and the SF State relay quartet also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships in March.

Knowles finished second in her event with a distance of 38 feet, 7.5 inches, shattering the Gators' previous standard of 37-06 set by Antonia Diamond in 2006.  The Laney College transfer also logged the sixth-best long jump in school history with a leap of 16-08.

Meanwhile, the aforementioned relay team placed sixth with a time of 3 minutes, 54.11 seconds, eclipsing the previous school record of 3:57.41 set in 2005.

“I was very pleased with our results today,” said SF State head coach Terry Burke.  “We're a youthful team, and today was the very first collegiate meet for some our athletes.  But overall I thought we performed pretty well. This will undoubtedly help our confidence as the season progresses.”

In the 400 meters, Samantha Eggert won her heat and finished fourth overall with a career-fast time of 58.92 seconds, which ranks fourth on the Gators' all-time indoor performance list. Fellow teammate Stefeny Butler also logged a personal best in the event, clocking in at 59.55 to place seventh in the field.  In the process, Butler jumped into fifth on SF State's all-time charts.

Elsewhere, Cassie Freeman jumped into third place on SF State's indoor performance list after placing eighth in the weight throw with a distance of 48-11.50, while Brionne Baucham and McDaniel both landed in fifth place on the school's all-time charts in their respective individual events.

Baucham captured her heat and placed seventh overall in the 200 with a time of 25.98, while McDaniel clocked in at 9.57 in the 60-meter hurdles to finish 20th overall.

Rounding out the list of Gator accomplishments were personal bests set by Thomas in the 60 (7.95) and Dalbey in the 60 hurdles (9.76), while two-time outdoor All-American Luisa Musika placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 41-11.50.

SF State returns to action in three weeks when it travels to Albuquerque, N.M., for the New Mexico Classic, Feb. 4-5.
