LOS ANGELES--- The SF State Gators rallied from a five-point deficit with seven minutes left to defeat the Cal State LA Golden Eagles 65-61 this evening at the Eagles Nest on the campus of Cal State LA.
Dominique Hunter (San Francisco, California, Gateway)led the way for the Gators with her 13th double-double by scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. She was one of four players to score in double figures for the Gators.
"We preach lay-ups, putback, and free throws and tonight we made clutch shots down the stretch," said SF State Head Coach Joaquin Wallace. It was a great win for us as every game is a playoff game, added Wallace.
The Gators' 62 points was a season high for them as was
Michaela Booker (Union City,California, James Logan High School)16 points. Booker was 6 of 12 from the field including 2 of 3 from three-point territory and going 2-for-2 from the line.
SF State (3-18, 3-14 CCAA) kept their play-off bid alive with the win and are two games behind 8th place Sonoma State, who defeated Cal State San Bernardino 50-47 on the road this evening.
The visitors out-rebounded the Golden Eagles (6-15, 3-14 CCAA) 39-35 and held them to just 37% shooting from the field. They also connected on 19 of 21 of their attempts from the line including 10-for-10 down the stretch.
Besides Hunter and Booker,
Nicole Hicks (Santa Clarita, California, Saugus High School) added 12 and
Sherika Miller (San Diego, California, West Hills HS)chipped in 10.
Sonia Miller paced the Golden Eagles wiht 14 points.
SF State will finish off its four-game road trip tomorrow evening in Carson, Calif., for a 5:30 pm tip-off with Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Toros lost 69-53 to Cal State Monterey Bay this evening.
