Musika, Belk Set New School Records at Husky Open

Luisa Musika broke her own indoor school record in the shot put on Sunday.

SEATTLELuisa Musika and Kaylie Belk broke two indoor school records on Sunday to highlight a busy slate of events for the San Francisco State women's track and field team at the 2011 Husky Open at Dempsey Indoor Stadium on the University of Washington campus.

Musika established a new Gator standard in the shot put with a toss of 44 feet, 8.75 inches, shattering her own mark of 43-05.75 set at the same meet in 2010.  With her performance, the SF State junior also provisionally qualified for the 2011 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships for the second time this weekend after doing so in the weight throw at the Husky Classic on Saturday.

Belk, meanwhile, posted the school's fastest 600-meter time in history at 1 minute, 36.61 seconds to capture first place in her heat and fourth overall.  Competing in her very first collegiate meet, Belk also ran the anchor for the Gators' 4x400 relay team that recorded the second-best time of the day at 3:54.17.  Rounding out the quartet was Stefeny Butler, Maya Cabiness and Lauren Hendrick, who represented SF State's fourth different relay lineup and second in as many days to provisionally qualify for the Division II indoor meet.

Cabiness also won her heat in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.89 seconds, which moves her into 10th place on the school's indoor career performance list.

Tanya Ferreira

In addition, Tanya Ferreira splashed onto SF State's all-time indoor charts in two events on Sunday.  The Gator senior registered the third fastest 1-mile time in school history after clocking in at 5:21.31, while her 10:40.86 effort in the 3,000 ranks fourth.  Alicia Trujillo cracked the SF State indoor top 10 as well, following a 10:58.76 performance in the 3,000, which now puts her at ninth in the event.

Elsewhere, Meagen Moiola finished in a seven-way tie for ninth place in the high jump after clearing 5-02.25.

SF State will learn the fate its provisional qualifiers into two weeks when bids to the Division II indoor meet are announced on Monday, Feb. 28.  The Gators kick off their outdoor season on Saturday, March 5, when they travel to Turlock for Cal State Stanislaus' Kim Duyst Invitational.
