SAN FRANCISCO – Despite an early morning rain shower, the skies over San Francisco State's Cox Stadium cleared quickly enough to help make the fourth annual SF State Distance Carnival a resounding success Friday for all teams and participants. Ironically, the meet's sole field event featured the Gators' chief highlight of the day as
Meagen Moiola claimed the high jump title.
Moiola cleared 5 feet, 5.75 inches on her third attempt at that height, edging Kristin Oenning of Oregon State (5-03.75), who came up empty on all three of her tries. With her performance, Moiola climbs into third place on SF State's all-time outdoor performance list after posting the school's highest jump since 2004.
The Gators recorded four additional top-five finishes on the day, including
Kayleigh Hendrix, who won her heat and placed second overall in the 100 meters with a time of 12.57 seconds, followed by
Brittany Johnson's third-place clocking of 12.90. In the 400,
Stefeny Butler equaled an outdoor personal best with a time of 59.01 to finish in third place, while
Lauren Hendrick captured her heat and wound up fifth overall in the 200 after crossing the tape at 26.19.
SF State's lone participant in the 5,000 meters,
Tanya Ferreira, logged a new career best by nearly 11 seconds with a time of 18:12.66, which ranks seventh in Gator history, while
Alicia Trujillo moved into 10
th place on the school's all-time list in the 10K race after clocking in at 41.06.51.
Select SF State competitors will participate at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday, before the entire squad reconvenes for its second straight home meet next weekend, the Johnny Mathis Invitational, April 1-2, at Cox Stadium.
