BERKELEY, Calif. –
Alicia Chambers set a 2011 NCAA Division II outdoor provisional qualifying time in the 400-meter dash on Saturday to lead select San Francisco State track and field competitors at the University of California's Brutus Hamilton Invitational.
Chambers won her heat and placed fifth overall after clocking in at 55.45 seconds, which is currently the eighth-best time in the nation and tops in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. With her career-best performance, the Gator junior provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships in her fourth event of the season after accomplishing the feat in the 200 meters and 4x100 and 4x400 relays earlier this year.
Saturday's light schedule for the Purple and Gold also featured a fifth-place showing by
Luisa Musika in the discus throw with a distance of 136 feet, one inch, while teammate
Lindsay Machado took sixth with a season-long hurl of 133-08.
SF State will have two weeks off to prepare for the CCAA Championships, scheduled for May 5-7 on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock, Calif.
